Trance Dance®
Trance Dance was created by Frank Natale in the 70s of the last century and until 2021 it was Wilbert Alix, its precursor until the moment he died.
Trance Dance is a combination of body movement, sounds, dynamic percussive rhythms, breathing and the use of a blindfold. All these factors allow access to a trance state that promotes an awakening of our intuition, greater internal clarity, increased physical resistance and emotional well-being.

Talking like this, it seems very easy, for those who have never experienced this practice but, in fact, experience tells us that it is just like that, a simple, effective and powerful method, which involves dancing with the maximum of darkness, in order to avoid any distraction with the outside world and allow access to internal answers and, often, solutions to questions posed before the ritual. The use of an intention before the ritual, as with all shamanic practices, is also essential to create greater awareness and depth in the practice.
The use of a blindfold becomes one of the most important elements of this ritual, allowing our consciousness to be internalized in the process experienced.
Movement is fundamental, being a form of non-verbal language, where the mind is left to the side, thus allowing a more spontaneous, intuitive and unintentional movement. Movement also helps us to be more present up to a point where the dancer disappears and becomes the dance itself.
Since people are not used to this process, initially it can become more challenging, and with practice, the unblocks appear and the mind interferes less and less. With time it becomes easier and easier to access these non-ordinary states of consciousness.
In Trance Dance, we use a type of breathing called fire breathing, which effectively helps participants start the rituals or deepen their experience during it. This is a key tool that allows us to start our internal engine and help us to enter a non-ordinary state of consciousness.
This work is accompanied by a specific type of music, culturally not known and that meets several criteria to create an effective set of music. Music is one of the elements that lead participants to take an inner journey and access these deep states of consciousness, in a natural, simple and powerful way.
These journeys have been a vital part of shamanic dance cultures throughout the western and eastern world for thousands of years. Traditionally, these rituals were accompanied by the rhythms of drums, which are the beating of our heart, thus becoming a hypnotic sound. This beat of the drums takes us into a trance state, when the rhythm is continuous and constant. Currently in trance dance rituals, drums are used, as well as other organic elements, but the musical base that is used is amplified through a sound system. The rhythms are slower at the beginning of the ritual, intensify until they reach a peak and gradually slow down again until the final moment when the participants are invited to lie down and relax.
In the final phase of the ritual, the music ends and the participants are invited to lie down and enjoy the experience. Here, a sound journey is carried out with meditative instruments that lead each one to deepen the internal experience and to integrate the experiences experienced during dance and movement. This is a fundamental phase for the closure of this ritual.
The contemporary approach to Trance Dance combines these ancient rituals with current techniques, thus creating an innovative, effective and transformative method for the human being.
