LOTUS ON FIRE
A gathering of women returning to the ancient rhythm of body, blood, earth and fire
29–31 January 2027
Place: Quinta São José dos Montes, Tomar
There is a particular quality to this time of year. The earth is quieter, the days are slower, and nature turns inward.
Lotus on Fire is an invitation to enter this rhythm together — to step away from the movement of everyday life and spend a few days in nature, in the company of women, around fire, water, earth and air.
We will share space, food, stories, songs, movement, silence and ritual. We will enter the sacred Sweatlodge in the early mornings, give our prayers to the fire, spend time in nature, create with our hands, dance, sing, rest and listen.
The elements will accompany us throughout the retreat — not only as something around us, but as part of the experience itself.
Earth to ground.
Water to cleanse.
Fire to awaken.
Air to move.
There will be space to turn inward and meet what is there: the quiet places, the desires, the strength, the tenderness, the things that have been waiting for our attention.
And there will be space to share this with other women.
To sit together.
To witness and be witnessed.
To listen to another woman’s story.
To laugh, sing, dance, eat and rest together.
To let the circle become a place of belonging.
We each arrive with our own lives, our own bodies, our own experiences and our own ways of being. There is something beautiful in bringing all of this into one space and allowing the differences to be part of the circle.
We will also make space for the feminine cycle and our relationship with menstrual blood, approaching it as a natural part of our bodies, our cycles and our connection with the Earth.
The lotus grows from the mud, reaching through water towards the light. And yet its roots remain in the earth.
The fire of the lotus is the part that continues to burn while we turn inward.
The name Lotus on Fire came from our first retreat, when heavy rain surrounded the sweat lodge fire and the fire continued to burn. Looking at the flames rising from the water, the image of a lotus came naturally.
This time, we return to the fire.
